Pairing

Here is where my friends and I will post our reviews from The Cutter. We will also recommend a spirit and feature a location.

The Prince of the Grape

For over a hundred and forty-five years, Hennessy has defined what cognac means to the masses. In all my drinking years, I was never a fan of the "grape". The taste of Champagne, nor Cognac appealed to me. Not until I was introduced to Hennessy Privilege. First on the rocks with no chase.(I'm not stupid. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean I don't respect it). After several weeks, my pallet craved it neat. Now I'm a fan of "good" cognac. I'm not "booshie" but I don't drink nor smoke any bullshit. I also had the chance to taste Hennessy Pure White. A near clear colored spirit that is very smooth whose flavor has a hint of fruit. To bad you can only get it outside ConUS. Next time you're in the Caribbean, think about me.

1st of The Five Horsemen

About nine years ago on the recommendation of a "connoisseur", I bought my father bottle of $65 bourbon as a birthday gift. One week after presenting it to him I asked how was it. He says to me, "I poured a glass and after taking one sip, I poured the rest back into the bottle. It was too good to drink"  Needless to say, he sipped his way through that bottle rather quickly. The gift was Blanton's Single Barrel Special Reserve. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of tasting the best bourbon I have ever tasted. Pictured here is Blanton's Original. By far this was the smoothest and most flavorful bourbon whiskey to cross my pallet. With hints of vanilla and orange, it would be an insult to chase this as you would with Jack or Jim. Blanton's was the perfect compliment to the PDR 1878 Cubana Especial, reviewed below. As much as I love my Jack and Black, Gentleman Jack and Makers 46, I feel like I've elevated my tastes with the Blanton's. Can't wait to try the other four recipes.
